The latest on a second stimulus check looks promising for many. Based on the latest reports, it appears a check for $600 many be on its way to those who need it most. While this is a decrease from the $1,200 checks sent earlier this year, it may be a much-needed windfall for Americans who have suffered from financial hardship during the Coronavirus pandemic.
As of yesterday, there were still a few holdups on a $900 billion relief package working its way through Congress which includes this $600 stimulus check. Included in those discussions are some congressmen calling for a larger check; something similar to the previously issued $1,200 check. Currently, there is an optimistic deadline for midnight today (Friday 12/18) to pass this legislation. This happens to be the same deadline for a government shutdown unless a stop-gap bill is passed.
If passed, the payment process should work more quickly compared to the last stimulus rollout. Now that systems and processes have been put into place, there shouldn’t be much of a delay. If passed before the holiday, many eligible Americans could expect to receive their check early January of 2021.
As far as who is eligible, it is not clear if the same income limits from the previous stimulus check will be used, or if income limits will be reduced.
There’s also talk of yet another stimulus that could be rolled out in a third package in 2021.
